Our client designs and manufactures a complete range of engine cooling, heating and air conditioning systems to bus and specialist vehicle manufacturers. Within their Original Equipment division they have an exciting opportunity for a major Account Manager.

Dealing with specialist vehicle manufacturers, you will be expected to oversee all matters relating to the sales accounts allocated to you. You will be responsible for selling to potential customers in the UK and Europe. This will include getting the first appointment, presenting the brand as a first pitch and once an opportunity has been identified, passing engineering issues to the sales engineers.

You would be then responsible for closing off all the commercial side of the negotiation before moving on to the next potential customers. A long term sales plan will need to be developed to include new business opportunities and, where they do not enjoy 100% supply, increasing sales within existing customers.

You will be given any new enquiries which the company receives within your designated area of activity. You must be able to complete presentations to new customers and convert potential customers into new accounts. You will also be given a list of accounts that the company has identified as target customers within the specialist markets they operate. These will be opportunities which could take a lengthy period of time to convert into live accounts, so a dedicated approach with a long term strategy will be required.

You will report to the Managing Director.

In addition to the general sales duties outlined, on occasions they may ask you to support their engineering department on special projects.

You will be an intelligent, self motivated, individual with the ability to work well in a team and be able to use your own initiative to identify and understand customers’ needs. An excellent communicator, you will be expected to establish and maintain good working relationships with customers whilst working towards your set sales targets. You must have good time management and organisational skills, be pro-active and be able to prioritise your workload. You will need to understand basic engineering principles allowing you to explain the benefits of the systems they manufacture.

You must be persuasive, a good negotiator and appreciate that you are dealing solely in the field of new business. You must always have a presentable and professional appearance. Support the Quality Assurance of products manufactured and services to R&D. Metallography and other metallurgical tests on bimetal strip and castings. Photographic support of bearing investigations. Provide holiday cover for the laboratory where possible

Applicants should ideally hold a minimum of GCSE (or equivalent) in Chemistry or a Science. A basic knowledge in the field of Metallography and/or chemical analysis techniques would be especially useful but full training will be provided as necessary. Knowledge of photography would also be an advantage.

Previous experience of working in a laboratory environment is preferred where you will have gained experience of lab test processes and systems.

A methodical approach is required in order to carry out tasks accurately.

The ability to prioritise activities within tight deadlines and to problem solve with minimal supervision after training.

A willingness to work flexibly across a range of tasks and activities.

The ability to demonstrate a positive and responsible health and safety attitude combined ideally with previous experience of working safely with chemicals and/or metals.

Basic IT skills in the use of spreadsheets, word documents and databases is required.
