Butterflies launching

As app development specialists, we’re adept at designing and creating mobile apps that can capture field data or help brands to connect and interact with customers wherever they are in the world, 24/7.

Designing and developing the app is only half of the story. When it comes to deploying a newly-built app, every client’s needs are unique. Here, Chris Coomber, co-founder and director at 4FX, explains how we support our clients with successful app deployment and what to consider when deciding where and how to release your app.

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to app design; each client’s needs vary and the same
can be said of deployment. While our specialist app development team has created hundreds of apps for smart devices, we always employ a bespoke approach to the launch process for maximum impact.

What to consider when releasing an app

If an app is to effectively reach its intended end users, several factors need consideration, including:
· the app’s aim and objectives
· the app type and defined uses
· the requirements of the client
· the needs of the target end user.

All of these elements dictate the means of deployment, which can be done in one of three ways;
1. Release via our own 4FX App Store/Google Play
2. Launch via the customer’s own App Store
3. Deploy as an Enterprise release.

But which one is best for you?

Using 4fx App Store/Google Play
For clients who don’t already have an app store account or limited experience with apps, launching an app via our 4FX app store is an effective method of deployment, particularly for iOS and Android devices. The advantage of launching this way is that clients can avoid the lengthy and time-consuming process of setting up their own account and annual renewals, as we can do it for them.

We find that clients who are new to apps appreciate this softer approach, particularly as the app can eventually be transferred once their accounts are verified. However, you won’t find too many in there, as we often go for the following options instead.

Release via the client’s app store
If our clients already have an app store, we’ll often support them in launching their new app there. This is particularly effective for customers deploying a more generic app that is customer-facing and available to the public. Often, we’ll manage the whole deployment process on behalf of the client, setting up the app store account and managing ongoing updates and verifications until they are confident enough to oversee this themselves.

Deployment through an enterprise release
If we have created a client app solely for internal use, this is commonly deployed through an enterprise release. The advantage of this is that it can sit on the client’s own servers and they can have complete control of the app and its release, rather than waiting for it to go back through Apple or Google verification.

In addition, if an app is for internal use only, it should not be available to the public; employees can be issued with a secure private link to access and download the app. This is a more secure means of launching an app and, as it doesn’t have to go through app store verification, it can benefit from added functionality such as advanced tracking.

Supporting you with app deployment
Right from the get-go, when we start working on a new app with a client, we’ll always discuss deployment, ensuring that the means of release is completely aligned with their individual needs. We’re on hand to help them every step of the way, from providing a little support to managing the entire process. This means our clients can focus on their main objective, whether that’s interacting with employees, gathering business critical data or growing international sales.
